Rice Ball (Onigiri) is a very popular Japanese food as a light meal, snack, or lunch. They are very easy to prepare and convenient to bring for lunch. You can put anything you like inside of the rice such as grilled salted salmon, pickled plum (ume-boshi), teriyaki chicken.

Yoshimi will give you important tips for cooking Japanese rice and how to make rice balls. You will learn how to prepare salmon and chicken for the inside, too.

Please enjoy learning, making and eating delicious rice balls at home.

Please prepare:(for about 3 people)

Cooked short grain rice (follow the instructions on package): 2 cups

Nori (seaweed sheet): 2 sheets

Salt

For the inside

Salmon

Chicken thigh (soy sauce, fresh ginger, honey)

Umeboshi (available at natural food stores or Japanese grocery stores)

The fee is $15. per person

Yoshimi Arai, the principal of Magokoro New York, will be your host and instructor. She is an expert in the fine arts of Japanese culinary presentations and handmade design accessories. Many of her fine arts have been available at the Hammond Museum Gift Shop for many years.
