CERAMIC SCHOOL POLICIES

CANCELLATION POLICY:

No refunds are given. Exceptions will be made with medical emergency documentation. Should a class not fill sufficiently, we may cancel it one week prior to the first class session with a full reimbursement.

MAKE-UP CLASSES:

Each student may make up no more than 2 classes per semester. Make-ups are not guaranteed but are offered according to availability as a courtesy to our students. To make up a class, you must ask your instructor beforehand to check for availability and arrive on time.

OPEN STUDIO:

Open Studio is available to currently enrolled students, on a first-come, first-served basis. Students will have access to 2 hours of open studio time for each week of the session.  While there will be a studio monitor present at all times, this is not an instructional class. Open Studio hours cannot rollover into other class periods and there are no make-ups for missed sessions. Students must sign in and out with the monitor and ensure that all  areas are cleaned thoroughly.

CLASSROOM POLICIES

Clean Space:

  • No food allowed inside the studio.

  • No pets allowed.

  • Beverages in closed containers are permitted. Avoid leaking bottles or sticky drinks.

  • All students are expected to clean their supplies, wheel, table area, tools and space after each class. Please leave the space as you found it.

  • Please sweep shavings from trimming your pots and mop around your wheel if necessary. When mopping, please rinse the mop with clean water and inform the instructor about wet floors.

  • Ceramic students are expected to keep common areas such as the wedging table, sink, glaze area and work tables clean and organized.

Clay:

  • DO NOT LET CLAY GO DOWN THE DRAIN.

    • Clean all tools and hands in your water bucket first to catch as much clay as possible.

    • Please re-wedge your pliable used clay and leave it on your designated shelf.

Glazing:

  • KEEP ALL FOREIGN MATTER OUT OF GLAZE BUCKETS.

    • All potters should be extra mindful to keep glaze buckets as uncontaminated as possible. Accidental mixing of glazes or foreign objects can affect the chemistry of glazes and therefore alter their appearance, stability and predictability.

  • Glazes should not be applied thick as it may ruin kiln materials when fired.

  • All pieces must have bottoms free of glaze. Pieces with glaze at the bottom are subjected to not be fired.

  • Please note that clay, glazes and firing are unpredictable.

    • Works might crack or break at multiple points in the drying and firing process.

    • Glaze colors and finish may vary from sample test tiles.

    • No refunds will be issued.

Firing:

  • Please be diligent about identifying your work with your name. The studio is not responsible for any unlabeled/unclaimed pieces.

  • Finished pieces are expected to be picked up as soon as they are completed and available. Unclaimed works will be discarded after 15 days.
